Charlottetown Airport has Another Record Setting Year

The Charlottetown Airport Authority is very pleased to announce that 2017 was another record-breaking year for passenger traffic.

When the numbers were tallied, 370,688 passengers travelled through the Charlottetown Airport, 4.6% more than in 2016.

"We are extremely happy with the continued increase in traffic year over year,” said Charlottetown Airport CEO, Doug Newson. "This is the second consecutive year of significant growth, our 17% increase since 2015 can largely be attributed to PEI’s strong tourism industry.”

The increase in traffic came in the summer months as May (5.5%), June (9.8%), July (9.9%), August (11.8%) and September (5.9%) all saw significant increases compared to 2016.

In addition to the strong tourism season, Newson attributes the increase in passenger traffic numbers to capacity additions from Air Canada this past summer who operated larger planes than ever at YYG.

"The Charlottetown Airport Authority has worked very hard over the past number of years to expand air access to our province, and it’s paying off,” said Minister of Economic Development and Tourism Heath MacDonald. "The record passenger numbers we’ve seen over the last two years are a testament to that hard work and to the strength of the tourism industry on Prince Edward Island.”

The Charlottetown Airport Authority would like to thank all travellers who supported the airport by choosing to #FlyPEI this year. Together we are connecting Islanders to the world and the world to our Island.
