Charlottetown Airport passenger numbers holding strong
Passenger traffic through Charlottetown Airport in 2015 matched the record setting, all-time high set in 2014 with the province-wide 1864 Charlottetown Conference 150th anniversary celebrations.
Based on passenger numbers released by the airport, 316,628 air travellers arrived and departed through Charlottetown Airport in 2015. Airport officials say that's less than one-half per cent below 2014's banner year.
According to Charlottetown Airport Authority's CEO, Doug Newson, 2015's performance was solid on all fronts.
"We had fantastic support from air travellers in 2015," says Newson. "And everyone in our airport community, the air carriers, airport staff, and all of the ground services were firing on all cylinders."
Newson says that all signs are pointing to an even stronger year for Charlottetown Airport in 2016.
"It's a lot of good news for air travellers. We're looking at airline seat capacity increasing by over 15 per cent this year, and new additions like WestJet's non-stop flight to Orlando, Florida are very popular."
Sunwing returns with a seasonal weekly service to Varadero, Cuba departing Charlottetown on Wednesdays beginning February 17 for 13 weeks. Air Canada's rouge™ begins flying non-stop, twice daily between Charlottetown and Toronto on May 2nd for the entire summer travel season, while the Air Canada daily direct service to Ottawa returns starting May 1st.
