$5000 raised for Cystic Fibrosis - PEI Chapter

Braving gusting winds and cool temperatures, over 300 participants turned out on May 20 to walk or run five kilometers on Charlottetown Airport's main runway in the fifth annual flypei Runway Run hosted by Charlottetown Airport Authority.

Event proceeds of $5,000 were donated to the flypei Runway Run's charity, Cystic Fibrosis Canada - PEI Chapter. Founded in 1960, Cystic Fibrosis Canada is a national charitable not-for-profit corporation that is committed to finding a cure for CF. Since establishment, Cystic Fibrosis Canada has invested more than $235 million in leading research, innovation and care. As a result, Canadians with cystic fibrosis have one of the highest median survival rates in the world.

"We are very excited to be the recipient of the funds raised from the 2017 flypei Runway Run hosted by Charlottetown Airport Authority, said Ray Carmichael, Cystic Fibrosis Canada - PEI Chapter President. "These funds will help individuals like my six-year-old daughter Josie through research, advocacy and clinical support. We sincerely thank the airport staff and volunteers who organized and worked at the event.”

"We're absolutely thrilled by the number of participants and their enthusiasm,” said Doug Newson, CEO of Charlottetown Airport Authority. "This fundraiser would not have happened without the generous support of our sponsors and volunteers that helped in various ways. We would like to thank the Charlottetown Airport staff, WestJet, Tim Hortons and D.P. Murphy Inc., Ocean 100, and Hot 105.5 for their assistance in making the flypei Runway Run a tremendous success. We look forward to working with these great organizations in the future as we continue to make our run a signature fundraising event for the Airport Authority.”
